Discover BTU

BTU is the only university I wanted to get into. It is young, modern, research oriented, innovation driven, with a strong focus on start-ups, and has super cool international professors. It´s got a library that feels like the future, and an incredible community of students from all over the world!

Abhirami Vinod Manju, India, Artificial Intelligence (M.Sc.)

Living in Cottbus has felt like finding a quiet corner of the world where i could focus, grow, and feel at home. Beyond the city, BTU gave me not only the knowledge, but also friendships and experiences that shaped my time in Germany in a quite unique and interesting way.

David Camilo Zambrano Chacón, Colombia, Environmental and Resource Management (B.Sc.)

My M.Sc. in Biotechnology helped me find my passion in Enzyme Technology. Inspired by my professor´s work, I did my thesis on discovering novel biocatalysts for the synthesis of drug metabolites. I had a great experience working with a wonderful team of scientists and international peers. During the Master phase, I gained sound theoretical knowledge and strong hands-on experience in research.

Amal Hulangomuwe, Sri Lanka, Biotechnology (M.Sc.)

As a PhD chemist, I couldn't have imagined a better place to do my doctoral thesis. BTU offers a unique research environment with well-equipped laboratories and competent, committed teaching staff. The town of Senftenberg also impresses with its peaceful atmosphere and proximity to the lake - a perfect balance to research.

Samuel Ghomsi Wabo, Cameroon, Materials Chemistry (Doctoral Studies)

Studying Instrumental and Vocal Pedagogy at BTU as an international student has opened doors artistically and professionally. The program blends music and teaching, with great support, modern facilities, and a choice between classical or popular music.

Hai Viet Le, Germany, Instrumental and Vocal Performance and Teaching (B.A.)

What I like about BTU is the relaxed atmosphere and the constant support – both academically and personally. There are lots of great activities and events outside of classes where you can meet new people. Honestly, what more could a student ask for?

Ersin Mert Tansel, Turkey, Computer Science (B.Sc.)

  • How long does one semester last? What other dates do I have to keep in mind?

One year at the university is divided into semesters, each lasting six months. The winter semester runs from October to March and the summer semester from April to September. Most study programmes at BTU start in the winter semester. An overview of all important dates, such as lecture periods, application and enrolment deadlines is provided by the schedule of the current semester

  • How can I get a timetable for my studies?

A fixed timetable is rare when studying. Putting together the modules for the first semester is therefore usually one of the first challenges while studying, which in Germany is very freely organized in many subjects and must (and may) be designed independently.

The course of the first semester can and should be planned with the help of the examination and study regulations of the degree programme and the Information Portal Teaching. In the appendix of the examination and study regulations, you will find the standard study plan (curriculum), which suggests a distribution of the modules over the semesters of the study programme. All modules and courses of BTU are incorporated within the Information Portal Teaching, including the modules for the first semester. Further information can be found on the "Study Start" websites and - on the various student portals - in the tutorial series "Digital BTU".

Absolutely essential: At the beginning of your studies, all of this information and what to do with it is new and unfamiliar. That's why the introductory week for first-year students provides support and good examples that you can use as a guide.
